For those of you who aren't familiar with the Ars Electronica festival here is a summary, so that you too understand why we're here and actually enjoying this.
"Showcasing one's customized persona, staging one's own image is the order of the day. Go public and feature yourself or it's GAME OVER"
- Gerfried Stocker and Christine Schöpf, board of directors Ars Electronica.
Government and companies are storing more and more data about us, often more then they really need to. Thanks to the rapid developments in technology they can keep this data stored for as long as they want. You can't control that. And it's not just companies and government, we ourselfs are exposing more and more information about ourself everyday. With my accounts on various social network sites, my videos on YouTube and pictures on Flickr I'm freely giving away details about my life. Information that Google can find, and keeps, for eternity.
"Goodbye Privacy"
With symposia, workshops, events and exhibitions Ars Electronica 2007 will ask questions about privacy, information and rights, to explore this gray area of sharing, exposing, aggregating and recycling of (personal) data.
In the upcoming week we will try to share our adventures using text, pictures and video, as an overenthusiastic example of the internetgeneration of today. First up are the keynotes about fundamental rights in this evolved digital world.
